About This Sanctuary

Myinmahti Cave
Delve deep into the heart of the Shan Hills. Located along the highway between Kalaw and Aungban, Myinmahti Cave (မြင်းမထိဂူ) is a magnificent 1,028-foot-long natural limestone cave that bridges ancient history with spectacular nature. The cave's cool, winding pathways are lined with hundreds of historic Buddha images and gold-leafed sculptures—including ancient statues attributed to the Bagan Era. As you walk through the naturally chilled tunnels, you can marvel at dramatic stalactites, unique rock formations like the "Celestial Dragon," and the legendary "Angel’s Grinding Stone," where visitors can traditionally apply fresh Thanaka bark paste.
